Can it be used in twin pregnancies?

The results obtained so far show that the NIFTY test can be safely used in twin pregnancies; however, in triplets or more the accuracy of the test cannot be guaranteed, so in such cases, the NIFTY test cannot be used.

The reason for this is that the NIFTY test is a quantitative test, which is based on the finding that in trisomies the extra fetal chromosome is present in a higher than normal proportion in the maternal blood. In multiple pregnancies the presence of a fetus with trisomy leads to a significantly smaller increase in this proportion, which impairs the reliability of the test.
