Free insurance coverage for the NIFTY test

In addition to the NIFTY test, the BGI recommends the use of a freely accessible insurance offered by the Shenzhen Branch of the PICC Health Insurance Company Ltd. This insurance will cover the costs of further prenatal diagnostic testing in case of a positive NIFTY test, while in case of results that later prove to be false negatives, will pay a large compensation as follows:

1. If the test results indicate “high risk” of trisomy 21, trisomy 18 or trisomy 13, the insurance company will pay the costs of prenatal diagnostic testing, amniotic fluid sampling or chorionic villus sampling, and chromosome analysis.

2. If the test results indicate “low risk”, that is, the test is “negative”, but the newborn is diagnosed with trisomy 21, trisomy 18 or trisomy 13 within one year, the insurance company will pay RMB 200,000 (approximately USD 32,000 at the present exchange rate) based on a premium insurance contract.

The insurance is provided free of charge for each individual with the NIFTY test, but since the NIFTY blood samples are send out using a coded ID to protect personal data, a separate insurance contract should be concluded to consent that the Istenhegyi Genetic Diagnostics Center makes available the personal data of the future mother to the insurance company.
